Stegosaurus is officially the state dinosaur of Colorado. Seriously, they love ‘em out there. Colorado even features Stegosaurus on one of the state’s vanity-style license plates that you can purchase. You’d better BELIEVE I’d have one of those if I could. Anyway, since this is one of the areas that so many of the most famous Stego skeletons have been found, (there are 9 entries from Colorado on this website alone!) it wasn’t surprising to discover a new museum that I hadn’t heard of. The Morrison Natural History Museum, while small, has some things I had never seen before, like fossilized Stegosaurus footprints of both adults and babies. The biggest footprint in their collection had a smudge on the back of the print, indicating that the animal slipped slightly while making the track. Whenever I trip over my own feet I always get embarrassed and look around to see if anyone noticed. You’ve got to feel sympathy for a living creature who tripped once 100 million years ago, and people are still talking about it!
