Here is the second non-Stegosaurus to make our list. The greater family of Stegosaurs is actually pretty extensive, with over 18 individually known species. While Stegosaurus is the most famous, its cousins are no less beautiful or amazing to look at, although their skeletons tend to be much more rare. This particular one is an African species called Kentrosaurus. It’s smaller that its American cousin, and its backplates are replaced with spikes as you get closer to the tail. It’s possible this was developed for extra protection since the animal itself was smaller and required more defense. This skeletal mount, located in Berlin’s Museum Fur Naturkunde, is the only one in the world that I’m aware of, and it’s a beauty. If you get a chance to check this museum out, I also recommend the gigantic Tyrannosaurus skeleton, named “Tristan.” It’s the only dinosaur fossil that I’ve found genuinely frightening to look at. Good stuff!
