One of the more surprising destinations on my dinosaur quest was the Durbuy Adventure Park, a zip-line/rock-climbing activity center in southern Belgium, which for some inexplicable reason has a Stegosaurus skeleton in its lobby. This excursion was way off course for our tour, but Toasty and I bravely took the 5 hour drive anyway, crashing that night at the only hotel available for miles in any direction: “The Tropical,” which is definitely a place where older couples go to “re-connect.” I was worried that the skeleton might not even be at the park when we got there since it seemed so out of place. There was only one picture of it online, and very little information to go off of. That’s a risk you run with quests like this. You might spend a ton of time and energy getting somewhere, only to find that the dinosaur was moved, replaced, or never there in the first place! We lucked out though, and not only did the main building feature a terrific full-size Stegosaurus skeleton, but there was also this authentic skull, which might be my favorite I’ve ever seen. There’s just something about its sweet, horse-y face that I love. It was a great reward for taking such a risk to get there. You can see joy on my face, mixed with a good deal of relief!
