Several years ago, I wrote an entry in this journal about visiting the Royal Belgian institute in Brussels. That day I got to see their awesome Stegosaurus skeleton, but sadly was unable to get near this very cool Stego cast, which sits in a rarely-opened section of the building known as the PaleoLAB. It’s only accessible a few days out of the year, and I’m sure you can picture the scene of me sadly looking through the Lab’s locked glass door, wishing I could get near this beauty. It’s actually a life-sized skeleton puzzle which museum-goers can put together from various pieces around the room. (Hence the different colors of the bone casts.) For this year’s visit to the museum I thought ahead and emailed the curator, asking if they could let me in for a few minutes to take a picture. They were very nice and opened the room for 5 minutes while my friend and I frantically assembled the Stegosaurus and snapped our prized pic. I love this journal entry particularly because it was so many years in the making!
