Awww!  This Stegosaurus baby is a part of the same Denver exhibit that was featured earlier on this site.  It’s really adorable, and amazing to see the life-cycle of how these animals developed.  The latest research has shown that Stegosaurus’ plates and spikes remained small through young adulthood, and then increased suddenly and dramatically in size as they become adults.

The current thinking is that stegosaurs would run from danger as juveniles, and would then naturally switch from a “flight” reaction to a “fight” response to enemies once they grew to a certain size.  It’s somewhat similar to modern day giraffes, who are very vulnerable as babies, but once they pass into adulthood their life expectancy increases wildly because no animal wants to mess with them!
