The farthest and most exotic show we played on our last tour was in Tokyo, Japan. It’s difficult for me to comprehend that we have enough fans in such a far-off land to have warranted a show…but once we were there, my only concern was to turn the trip into as many adventures as possible. The easiest choice was the National Museum of Nature and Science, which is located in the heart of the capital city. The museum has wonderful exhibits on the Ice Age, Aerospace engineering, and animals from the deep ocean. (I’ve been really getting into whales lately!) Their dinosaur room is understated and has a simple black and white color scheme, but the specimens are beautiful and creatively displayed. The most striking is a crouching Tyrannosaurus, which is posed as if it’s about to leap and ambush a Triceratops across the walkway. On the other side of the room is a terrific Stegosaurus, which is spot-lit from several directions and casts cool skeletal shadows across the wall. I wanted to nerd out and talk about it with the people who worked there, but everyone spoke Japanese. (Totally understandable!)
