While on tour in Phoenix, I had the opportunity to stop by the hugely underrated Arizona Museum of Science in Mesa. I had never even heard of this museum, but decided to check it out on a whim. Much to my delight I found that they had a Stegosaurus skull, plate, and spike on display, as well a lot of great specimens I had never seen before. The cherry on top was “Dinosaur Mountain,” a huge life-size replica of a paleolithic mountainside. Animatronic dinosaurs stand on different ledges and come to life every 15 minutes when a “thunderstorm” rolls though the exhibit, complete with flashing lights and actual water that drains down the side of the mountain. It’s like being at a Rainforest Cafe where you actually learn something! (Aside from the fact that you shouldn’t eat desserts the size of a football.)
