–  This world famous display in the London Natural History museum is the Stegosaurus skeleton that originally inspired me to start this quest to see them all.  We stopped here the day after our concert at the Electric Ballroom, and I was blown away by how different this specimen looked from the one I grew up seeing in New York.  Named “Sophie,” it is the most complete Stegosaurus skeleton on display in the world, with over 90% of the bones coming from the same animal.  That’s unheard of and removes a great deal of the guesswork of what these mysterious creatures actually looked like.  The only replicated parts are the front left leg, the base of the tail and a few other small bones.  This authenticity gives Sophie a real presence, and the skeleton feels very alive.  I’m so grateful that the museum spent the millions of dollars it must have taken to purchase Sophie, and then give it such a prominent and beautiful display in the main lobby.  Amazing!
