Any child of the 80s will remember the giant Cabazon Dinosaurs from Pee Wee’s Big Adventure. In an iconic scene, Pee Wee talks about life and dreams with his friend Simone inside the jaws of a huge T-Rex sculpture, and later runs for his life from her enraged boyfriend. Those massive dinosaur sculptures are real, and can still be found as roadside attractions about an hour outside of Palm Springs, California. Over the years, the owner of the land expanded the area to include “Mr. Rex’s Dinosaur Adventure,” which is a great little park with a ton of life-sized dinosaur statues as well as some brightly colored blow-up models that light up at night time. It’s a great place to go if you’re in the wilderness near Joshua Tree with 15 bucks in your pocket. I loved it! (Bonus appearance by my dog, Camilla, who also enjoyed the park and wanted to be in this picture!)
