In 1962, as part of the Seattle World’s Fair, a beautiful new building was designed by Minoru Yamasaki, who later went on to create the original World Trade Center in New York.  This landmark Seattle building became known as the Pacific Science Center, and features a center-courtyard with two huge reflecting pools.  The day I went there, the pools were drained for maintenance, but I did get to see what I came for: a nearly sixty year old Stegosaurus sculpture that looks every bit its age due to its watery location and decades of exposure to the elements.  The pavilion was a very peaceful place to visit, and the architecture was beautiful.  You can even see the arch-like design in its walls that was used years later in Yamasaki’s Twin Towers.  There is apparently a current proposal to rebuild and transform the entire courtyard, which would be a shame in my opinion.  They have a real winner on their hands, no need to tamper with diamonds!
