he next Stegosaurus sculpture I encountered on tour is the famous “Steggie,” who has been standing outside the Cleveland Museum of Natural History in some form for over 55 years.  The first model was unveiled in 1968. It was beloved by more than two generations of museum goers, especially since everyone was encouraged to climb it and take pictures.  The wear-and-tear this public use caused on the sculpture led to it’s “retirement” in 1997.  (In actuality, it was moved to another location, which I will talk about in a future journal entry!)  The version you see in this picture is “Steggie II,” who has been around for 25 years and was created from the same model cast as the original.  The museum was closed for renovations when I went there, but luckily everything I needed to see was standing right in the front yard!
