I’ve lived in Los Angeles for the past 10 years, and yet until I started this dino-quest, it had never occurred to me to see the Stegosaurus at the Natural History Museum of LA.  I had been to the La Brea Tar Pits a few times, which are amazing in their own right, but the fossils that are pulled out of that area are primarily from the Ice Age and other later periods long after dinosaurs had gone extinct.  The Stegosaurus in LA is a great one.  It is dynamically posed squaring up against one of its main foes, Allosaurus.  (Even though you can’t really see that in this photo.)

My favorite aspect of this display is the actual set-up of the room itself.  There is a second floor above the skeletons that winds around the edge of the room and allows you to look down on the displays.  That perspective really brings the hugeness of these animals into focus.  Even though Stegosaurus were gentle giants by all accounts, they were built like massive versions of modern day hippos and rhinoceros, and were capable of inflicting tremendous damage on their enemies.

About me

Musician & Youtube Host with a passion for Dinosaur Hunting

Hi there, my name is Dan Avidan. I’m mostly known as the singer for Ninja Sex Party, and a comedian on the YouTube show Game Grumps.  What is not as well-known about me is that I am also a huge lover of dinosaurs.

It started when I was five years old and my granddad took me to the American Museum of Natural History in New York City.  I was immediately captivated by the dinosaur skeletons and was mystified that these ancient animals actually existed.
